On 3 March 2015, we created a mock-up of a potential new lighting scheme for the Priory. Our lighting consultant, Bruce Kirk, assisted by contractors and a ‘spider’, put various types of light fitting in strategic locations throughout the building, to illustrate how a larger-scale new lighting scheme might operate, to provide a better liturgical setting and highlight many of the often-overlooked architectural features. The exercise was also an opportunity to discuss our ambitions with English Heritage and representatives of the Diocese, and to demonstrate to members of the congregation the benefits of such improved lighting.
Although the afternoon (in between the hailstorms!) was quite bright, the ‘before and after’ photos (click to enlarge to full scope) demonstrate something of what can be achieved.
