Despite an Amber Weather Warning from the Met. Office, we welcomed substantial numbers of adults and children to our 2018 Live Nativity.
Children and parents from the Montessori School in Bolton Abbey formed a major part of the cast, and our carols were accompanied by a wind band from Ermysted’s Grammar School in Skipton. Alpacas, goats and the donkey came from farms in the locality. Lorna Heatley was the narrator, and The Revd Alex Wheatley, Curate of Christ Church, Skipton, conducted the rehearsals and led us in prayer. The Montessori PTA provided much-needed hot drinks and food within the tower. Out thanks to all the others who helped behind the scenes.
Both performances started out within the nave of the Priory, with the morning one subsequently moving out into the grounds, in steadily worsening weather. The children in particular are to be congratulated on stoically standing in their Stable tableau in near zero temperatures! For the afternoon performance, we invoked ‘Plan B’, and remained within the Priory, with the cast faultlessly following the alternative stage instructions that Alex had drawn up for this eventuality.
