Next month will mark the 75th anniversary of a notable event for Bolton Abbey. On the 6th of June, 1940, with the increasing threat of a Luftwaffe bombing offensive, over 70 girls aged 8 to 14 years, all pupils of Leeds Girls High School, arrived at Bolton Hall as evacuees. There will be a full article about this […]

Two Parishes Pilgrimage

On the afternoon of Sunday 10 May we shall be joining with our neighbouring parish of Embsay in a Two Parishes Pilgrimage. We shall be retracing the journey (or as much of it as you feel able to) of the Augustinian Canons who travelled from Embsay to Bolton in 1154 to re-found their (then) thirty-year […]

Service of Thanksgiving for the Lambs

Find the eggs!

During the Liquid Family Service on Easter Sunday 2015, we spent part of the time outside in the Priory grounds, hunting for hidden eggs. We’re not sure who were the more competitive, the children or the adults!

The second annual St Cuthbert Lecture, ‘Building Bolton’, took place in the Priory on Sunday 22 March at 15.00. Bolton Priory Mystery Play

The Priory and ruins will be the setting for a Mystery Play on 4th and 5th July this year. The Mystery Play is a re-telling of the life of Christ in 12 scenes, beginning in the Priory Church and moving down to the river and around the ruins before returning to the church for the […]

Lighting Mock-up

On 3 March 2015, we created a mock-up of a potential new lighting scheme for the Priory. Our lighting consultant, Bruce Kirk, assisted by contractors and a ‘spider’, put various types of light fitting in strategic locations throughout the building, to illustrate how a larger-scale new lighting scheme might operate, to provide a better liturgical setting and highlight […]
